We have had two very successful activities focused on welcoming new students to our school.
We had an amazing lunch for new students from Grades 1 to 6 at the end of Term One. We had healthy homemade hamburgers and a range of other foods including delicious fried rice! During the meal the SRC asked our new students for feedback about our school. All the new students said they felt welcomed and respected at our school. The one problem seemed to be that the playground was crowded and could be a little more interesting?
What do you think?
What could we do to improve our playground?
We also held a lunchtime activity event for the new students in Term Two. Students played Musical Chairs, Dodge-ball, Balloon Antics and Number Soccer. Now that the SRC has had a go at organizing these types of activities they can put their skills to use by organizing a junior school activity event!
Our Aims for 2017
- Junior School Activity Event – Term 3
- Senior School Disco – Term 3
- Participation in the City of Greater Dandenong Child’s Forum
- School Fete – Term 4
- 2017 Student Survey
- Development of a Friendship Seat
- Leadership Assembly in December
What would you like the SRC to do?
What is the purpose of the SRC at our school?
Why would it be good to be a member of the SRC?
The SRC would like to thank the students who make regular comments to our SRC Blog.
We want to reward you for your efforts and encourage students to visit our site.
Each month there will be a prize given to the student with the best response.
We thank Isaac for being the first student to make a response and leave a comment in 2015 and hope you enjoy your prize.
The winning response for March will be announced at the end of the month.
A good comment will include a response to the content on the Blog and also answer any questions asked within the post.
What do you think of the idea of having a top comment of the month?
What do you think would be important to include in your top comment?
The SRC is planning to run some lunchtime activities and competitions in our school hall for the Year 4 students.
They are targeting these children because they missed out on the disco and because they might be encouraged to join the SRC in 2015!
The SRC is planning a number of activities that the Grade 4 students will rotate through. They are looking at the 2013 student survey to work out what type of activities might be popular.
They thought the following type of activities might have you motivated and excited…..
- cooking / food making
- art competition
- sport/physical activity
- dance/music competition
- technology challenge
What do you think of these ideas?
Are there any other activities you would like to have included?
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)
We began our first SRC session with our twenty Grade 5 & 6 leaders sharing a delicious early morning breakfast. We enjoyed pancakes, fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal and toast. This was a fantastic way to get to know each other and celebrate the beginning of our friendship and journey as the 2014 SRC.
After breakfast we played a series of getting to know you games and then learnt about the format of an SRC meeting. We established some rules and procedures that we will use to help us function successfully as a group.
We also played cooperative games that helped us to focus on the importance of working together and contributing as members of our newly formed SRC.
We learnt that to work successfully as a group each member needs to know:
• what he/she can do to help;
• what other members can contribute;
• how to help other members; and
• how to accept help from them.
We completed the session by looking at what our 2013 student survey revealed. The students thought that a school disco, school fete and some lunch times sporting sessions could be possible projects for 2014.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
What would you like the SRC to do in 2014? Why do you think this would be important for our school?
Welcome to the SRC Blog.
This year the SRC has organised a range of fun-filled events including a giant Easter egg hunt in Term 1 and both a junior and senior talent show in Term 3. In term 4 the SRC will organise an assembly where they will share their 2013 successes and encourage new students to have a go and join the SRC for 2014.
